Conclusion Whole crop silage produced from rye meal and triticale in particular, due to its slime-forming, properties, is a problematic substrate, and at higher levels, often leads to problems with plant operation. By adding the enzyme Axiase™, it was possible to gradually replace the corn silage with whole crop silage. Thus according to availability, up to 100% whole crop cereal silage could be used. In addition to improved substrate flexibility, this leads to the stable operation of the biogas plant (mixing, degassing and plant power consumption).

Conclusion The Axiase™ allows large quantities of rye WCS to be used in high-capacity fermenters as well with no problems. Process stability and system performance are maintained with no restrictions. Due to the clear improvements in flow characteristics and viscosity, Axiase™ 100 will give greater flexibility in substrate management in future. Customer quote: “The effectiveness of Axiase™ (increased hydrolysis) was clear during the initial enzyme application phase because of the short-term increase in fatty acid levels that could be seen in the fermenter.”

Conclusion Rye WCCS can already cause massive disturbances of pumping and mixing characteristics in the fermenter by using a share of 10% in substrate mix. Axiase™ 100 contains enzyme activities, which digest problematic substances in WCCS. Due to the application of Axiase™, permanent shares of WCCS can be realised which are well above the critical share of WCCS in the substrate mix. Customer quote: Axiase™ 100 makes it possible to increase the share of rye WCS to at least 20% in substrate mix in our plant even though the use of 10% WCS led to massive disturbances of pumping and mixing characteristics in the fermenter in the past.
